SoFo atmosphere north of Folkungagatan

Photo: Sofo
Visited SoFo last weekend to get updated on the area. Though SoFo stands for  the streets south of Folkungagatan (hence SoFo) and east of Götgatan on Södermalm, the SoFo atmosphere is found from Götgatan by Slussen and North of Folkungagatan as well. The district is one of the capital's trendiest, you will find a huge selection of stores and cafés, each with its own individual style. Three words best describe SoFo's atmosphere: young, hip, and laid-back. The great artbook bookshop Konst-ig has moved to SoFo but you will also find clothes at King Lily, ecological foodstore Aubergine, trendy indian restaurant Shanti, clothes at Warderobe, 76 Vintage & Denim, a new interior design store Kent Design Store, artgallery Art Concept Store and my own favorite jewellery David&Martin.

Restaurant Hälsingborg moves

Photo: Hälsingborg
Read on DN that the cosy restaurant Hälsingborg on Birger Jarlsgatan is moving to new premisses in the city in mid January. The reason for moving is that "Little Hälsingborg has grown out of its premisses" .  The new location is Mäster Samuelsgatan 60, former Locanda. According to Elin at DN a new italian restaurant Esperanza has moved to Birger jarlsgatan 112.

St Paulsgatan an unknown pearl on Södermalm

K.U.S clothes (nr 1), Worldmusic and café Multikulti (nr 3b), Hello Kitty stuff at Dona´s  (nr 3a), Platanos Grocerystore (nr 17) and the old papershop St Pauls bok och pappershandel (nr 24) are also really cool places.

Nordic light hotel refurbishment

Photo: Nordic Light Hotel
The amazing design hotel Nordic Light have started a long term cooperation with Philips. The launch of "Prototype Room 602" is the first stage of a long-term cooperation agreement between the Nordic Light Hotel and Philips. The objective of "Prototype Room 602" is to create a room where the combination of Swedish design, light research and state-of-the-art technology together form the hotel room of the future.

All three aspects contribute to a complete solution to the demands the future will place on hotel guests. Simplicity is the keyword for the entire project. The result is a holistic experience of first-class design, well thought-out functionality and superior technology that render the guest's stay both comfortable and simple. The next stage is to implement the solutions developed in the prototype room into all hotel rooms.  Among the technologic installations will be the latest philips products: homemovie system, remotecontrol with a touch screen, Dect-telephone and latest LCD tv, photoframe etcetera.

Don't miss the unknown City hall!

Photo: The Unknown City Hall
More than 300 000 tourists visited the City Hall last year and I believe that most of them would love a copy of the book "The unknown City Hall" with amazingly beautiful pictures of Yanan Li. You can buy the book at the City Hall. Don't miss out on the exhibition, with the same name" opening in De Hundrades Valv in the City hall, entrance Borgargården between 17th of january to 10th of February. See  Dagens Nyheters photo album with Yanans pictures of the City Hall done earlier.

Trendier approach at Pub hotel Rica

Photo: Ulfsunda Slott
I heard that Rica Hotel Kungsgatan now is undergoing a total refurbishment. A work colleague saw one of the concept rooms the other day and got so exited. The hotel has a great location, situated in the PUB departmentstorebuilding and opposite of the Concert Hall, but has a somewhat secret entrance. Im therefore happy to hear that they have plans to do something about the lobby. They are also going to connect it more to PUB department store and refurbish all rooms before April 2008!!!

As I understand they will give it a modern, cool look, and I believe that they will succeed, since they are using Svensk Inredning - who have done the most amazing rooms at Ulfsunda Slott

Photo: herr Spiridons allehanda

I don't know exactly what caught my attention when I browsed at AOS the other day: Was it the name Herr Spiridons allehanda (Mr Spiridons varieties of store) or the eco friendly touch? Anyways Herr Spirodons Allehanda produces and sells living organic vegetarian food. This means that the raw food has been heated to maximum 42 degrees in order to preserve nutrition and taste the best. This factory and delicacy place is situated on S:t Eriksgatan 88.

Its the only porcelain factory in Sweden and well worth a visit. The website is unfortunately only in swedish.

A new restaurant will open January 23rd in Gamla Stan, and I have mentioned it before. The restaurant, named Frantzén-Lindeberg will open on Lilla Nygatan 2, former Mistral Restaurant. The restaurant will be runned by Björn Frantzén and Daniel Lindeberg who both have been working at Edsbacka Krog. If you understand swedish you can read all about it on their blog.

Celebrate the woman on the 20 note

Curious about the woman pictured on the Swedish 20-note? Her name is Selma Lagerlöf. 2008 sees the 150th anniversary of one of Swedens most celebrated authors internationally. Selma Lagerlöf won the Noble Prize for Literature in 1909. She will be celebrated  with two exhibitions during 2008 according to SvD.
