Environment focus at Stockholm-Arlanda

On March 23, 2010, Stockholm-Arlanda Airport will implement changes in its system for calling taxis in order to give priority to ecotaxis and reduce the number of taxis that arrive at the airport with no fares. The new rules are expected to gradually increase the number of ecotaxis at the airport and make it easier for travellers to select a taxi company.

Stockholm-Arlanda is engaged in intensive efforts to minimise the environmental impact of airport operations, which also include traffic to and from the airport. One step in this work is to have 100 per cent of all taxis at the airport be ecotaxis by July 1, 2011.

Routes increases by 5 pct at Arlanda

Airlines are investing in new and more frequent departures to Stockholm Arlanda Airport this summer. Total capacity is expected to increase by 5 per cent for international traffic. A few examples:

Best view of the city from SkyView

Stockholms new attraction, SkyView, opened on February 5th 2010, and has become a great success. The SkyView consists of two glass gondolas, which can each carry 16 people. The gondolas travel up two sets of rails on the outside of the Event arena Ericsson Globe, the worlds largest spherical building, all the way to the top, 130 metres above sea level.

We picked a stormy winter day and tried it all out. Despite the weather, and vertigo, i survived. It was fun too.

Radisson Blue Strand Hotel

As pr-manager Im always looking for news, but sometimes its great to re-visit old friends as well. Radisson Blue Strand Hotel, invited us to a hotel tour and lunch. Strand is one of the five star hotels in Stockholm. The hotel is situated superbly close to everything in Stockholm! The archipelago boats are virtually by the front doors, the best city shopping just a two minute walk, Old town just 5 minutes away and the island of Djurgården with many of the main attractions a nice walk along the Strandvägen boulevard.

The restaurant is really great with one of the best views in the city and they are also well known for their fantastic brunch.

Their Tower suite has its own terrace with a view of the Royal Palace and is really one of a kind.

A pearl in the maritime Stockholm

You know the feeling of a pleasant surprize? Last week  I visited SS Orion a ship in the maritime environment on the Skeppsholmen island. I wasn't really expecting anything. But the ship and the people behind made a real impact. The ship has been restored to its former glory with mahogany - even on the toilet.

Though its an old steam ship the owners have modernised it so its now environmental friendly. "We replaced the ship’s oil-fired boiler with an environmental friendly heat pump. Our energy source to the heat pump is the water in Stockholms Ström (Actual water in the harbour) through a heat exchanger located below the water. The system is complemented with effective solar collectors on the top deck", says Bo Thorstenson the owner of the ship.

They are now hoping to host smaller executive meetings etcetera on the boat.
