Vacation

Im going on vacation this afternoon and will be back on July 21

Favourable exchange rates make Stockholm more affordable than ever!

The way the Swedish krona has plummeted vis-à-vis the Euro and the Dollar over the last year, might not make Sweden's Central Bank very happy, but it has huge benefit for visitors: the already quite affordable capital of Scandinavia has developed into the bargain of the century for anyone with Euros or US Dollars in their pockets.

Stockholm is no longer expensive . And since June of last summer, the exchange rate of the Swedish krona has taken quite a hit, de facto lowering prices a further 15-30% for visitors from mainland Europe and the US. What this means for anyone planning a corporate meetings or incentive trip, is obvious: you simply get a whole lot more bang for your buck (or Euro...).

What hasn't changed, of course, is Stockholm itself. It's still one of the most stylish, clean, safe and beautiful places anywhere, with superb hotels and restaurants, history and culture everywhere you look and not to be forgotten: an archipelago of some 30 000 islands and skerries, literally at you doorstep.

Stockholm is no longer expensive

According to Mercer's 2008 Cost of Living index, Stockholm is no longer an expensive city. Stockholm lands in place nr 31. Top three are Moscow, Tokyo and London. Oslo is the 4th expensive place to live in according to the index, Copenhagen the 7th and Helsinki the 21st place.

Here are some tips on how to save money as a tourist in Stockholm.

Attractions: We have several big attractions in the city that are free to visit.

The Stockholm City Museum, the Culture house of Stockholm - Kulturhuset and Liljevalchs Art Gallery. And last but not least: one of the main attractions of the City is free of charge: Gamla stan (the Old town). It has also become a tradition with photo exhibitions at Raoul Wallenbergs Square. Right now an exhibition named Rites of Life

For more culture attractions I would like to recommend Åmells fine art dealers. There exhibitions are always free of charge. Galleries around Hudiksvallsgatan is also free of charge.

Sightseeing- Instead of a guided buss tour, you can by the Stockholm Card (you got the brochure-the little green book) which gives you free entrance to 75 museums and attractions in the city, free access to the public transportation, free boat sightseeing on several tours and other free  offerings.

We can offer two attractions with free entrance that are on the Unesco World Heritage list. The Woodland cemetary Skogskyrkogården and the beautiful gardens outside the Drottningholm Palace. (Stockholm Card lets you in to the palace for free)

The subway in Stockholm is said to be the world's longest art exhibition. It is 110 kilometres long and 90 of the 100 subway stations are decorated in different ways.

In the summertime, Stockholm offers several different places where you can swim and enjoy the sun. Please look at

An easy and environmental way to get around in the city is to rent a bike. Why not explore the National City park on bike

Eating out: Several restaurants have cheaper lunchprices (Dagens Lunch)  So do as the Swedes eat your main meal for lunch. Hötorgshallen food hall is a great place to go for a cheap take away lunch.

The trend with wireless internet surfing might put the old Swedish phonebooths in the lime light again. 700 phone booths will be provided with a webb-transmitter, making it possible to surf wireless within a radius of 150 metres from July of 2007. 16 of the Telia phone booths are located in the city centre and the cruise terminals at Viking terminal Masthamnen, Värtahamnen and Estonia terminal Frihamnen. Check out for surf boots at NK on Hamngatan plus Hamngatan 8, 19 and 24, Sturegallerian, Tullhus 3 Skappsbron, Sergels Torg, Hötorget, Sveavägen 73, Kungsträdgården T-bana, Vasagatan and the Central station.

Karlsson on the roof-sightseeing

image15

A new way to get a great over view of Stockholm is from the roofs of the city. Be Karlsson on the roof for an hour and try a new and untraditional way to explore the capital city of Sweden; sightseeing on the roofs. Well this is not something for the person afraid of heights since you are walking 43 meters of the ground, dressed up in helmet and shoulder harness.

The complete experience takes 1,5 hours, the tour 45 minutes. It costs 300 SEK and takes place weekdays at 16.00/17.30 and weekends 16.30/18.00 and starts at Birger Jarls Torg, Riddarholmen. The tour takes on a maximum of ten people at the same time so you need to pre-book. The guides speak several languages.
