Five new restaurants in Djurgården

Djurgården is a lovely place for both stockholmers and tourists with some of the best attractions in the city plus a wonderful environment. Five old-new restaurants are opening at Djurgården this spring. Enjoy them or a pic-nic of your own anyplace?

Villa Godthem (former Wärdshuset Godthem), next door to Ulla Winbladh värdshus, undergoes a transformation and will invite the public to a new Swedish-French/provancal style kitchen under the guardian of former Gyldene Freden chef Hans Eriksson with main courses 195-295 kronor. A new bar and a new place for barbecue is being built and will offer weekend brunches on Saturday and Sundays. The restaurant will be open Tuesday-Friday 11.30-23/24, Sat 12-24, Sunday 12-22.

Ekorren Konditori at Biskopsudden, beside Waldemarsudde and in the boat harbour area, is now being put to order by Johnny Askerwall, former owner of Rosendals Wärdshus. Ekorren Konditori will keep its name but will become a classic summer restaurants with lighter summer food and excellent surroundings. The restaurant will open in end of April. The Café will be open everyday between 10-22. Ekorren konditori, Biskopsvägen 5, Biskopsudden, Djurgården. Phone: 08-662 01 80. Carl Michael close to Gröna Lund and the ferry at Allmäna Gränd opened recently the doors to a modern 16th century restaurant with classic Swedish food with modern influences. Main courses from 147-300 kronor. Open: tues-fri 11.30-15, 17-22.30 and weekends 13-22.30.
Djurgårdsbrunns värdshus will open in mid May with Mathias Pilblad, a member of the swedish national team in food. The prices range from 90-285 kronor and the food will be Swedish with French, Spanish and Italian Mediterranean influences. The restaurant will be open every day from beginning and june and weekend brunch during low season.

Josefina opened in autumn 2006. It's a fine line between ostentatious and elegant. Whether the white décor with its stucco work, columns and huge crystal chandeliers belongs to the former category or the latter is in the eye of the beholder. The restaurant?s owners have said that they wanted to create a culinary amusement park, and they have certainly achieved this with their interior design, the stunning Djurgården waterside setting and the classic dishes on offer.
