Washington Post loves music clubs in Stockholm

"When the sun goes down in Stockholm, the music heats up thanks to a collection of intimate venues and a hip fan base dedicated to pop music appreciation" says the Washington Post in a cool article on Stockholm nightlife.

"But this is Stockholm, a global beehive of 21st-century pop, where Swedes treat their music with the reverence it deserves. In recent years, Scandinavia's largest country has churned out some of the most finely crafted, detail-oriented pop on the planet, produced by artists such as Stockholm sensations Lykke Li and the Knife.... When I visit the land responsible for all these fantastic sounds, it makes perfect sense. In Stockholm, the nightclubs are clean and intimate, the sound systems are loud and lush, the DJs are encyclopedic, and the bands can be brilliant"

Summer hot spots

The summer period has entered Stockholm with some favorite hot spots - and some new. Here are some places for a drink and for a view....

Josefina on Djurgården offer some 1 000 out door seats viewing the beautiful Strandvägen Esplanade and the Nybroviken bay.  They offer a "loungy" atmosphere in their comfy sofas with prominent dj:s. This is a perfect place to cool down or getting in a party mood...

Debaser Humlegården is the latest addition to Debaser music club. Humlegården city park is situated in the posh area of Östermalm by Stureplan. Former Floras Kulle in Humlegården is now runned by Debaser, a great open everyday from 11.30 to 01.00 with different dj:s every night. This is debasers latest addition. Their two other popular clubs are situated in GamlaStan/Slussen and at Medborgarplatsen.

Opera bar, Strömterassen, with a view of the Royal Palace from the roof of the Royal Opera adds glamour to the amazing view. The Strömterassen bar, Strömgatan, Operahouse, is open from 11.00-20.00 until August 14. The bar is closed between June 26-July 16.

Like home, but out

The latest trend in Stockholms' nightlife is "the at home-feeling". The idea is to dine with the feeling of home. Bookshelves, comfy chesterfield sofas and odd lamps seems to be the concept.  Here are the three new initiatives, interpreting the theme in their own way.

The luxury restaurant F12 opened its new bar and lounge Salon named Salongen this week. A wide range bar menu and drinks is offered in a comfy trendy grandmother atmosphere. Heavy draped curtains, dark orange and dark petrol coloured walls and seats all mitched and matched. The restaurant have also had a facelift, but keeps the light green spring atmosphere.
F12 and F12 Salongen, Fredsgatan 12, City

Cloud Nine is the name of a new restaurant in an upcomming city area (Norra Bantorget). There are actually two concepts connected together. First the Restaurant Cloud Nine which offers great tasting french colonial style food, with inspiration from New Orleans as well as with african and west indies influences. Great food in the mid price segment. The idea is for people to dine at the restaurant and then eat the dessert at the Cloud Nine desserts and drinks, which is a comfy and really nice looking dessert restaurant and bar. The dessert part has a separate entrance and serves advanced desserts as well as "7 sort of cookies", which is a typical swedish farmers concept.
Cloud Nine, Lilla Bantorget/Torsgatan 1, City

Hotel Lydmars opened in october 2008 and has also got the comfy concept in their restaurant.
Hotel Lydmar, Södra Blasieholmshamnen 2, City

Amazing view from new sky bar

image124

Photo: Ahrbom & Partner

It's not everyday that Stockholm gets a new viewpoint, but it happened last week. Well, well, the building itself was built in 1961 and has been used by the Swedish Tax Agency but has now turned into a departmentstore called Skrapan, an officebuilding, studentapartments, apartments and the restaurant Imperiet. A new giant glass box has been built on top of the old skyscraper - and is now the home of Stockholm's skybar with the name "och himlen därtill" (and heaven too). For curiosity: The Skybar is named after the 40s movie "All this, and heaven too" starring Bette Davis and Charles Boyer. It opened on Lucia, thursday December 13, and the view is amazing!!!
