Semlor on Fat Tuesday
The semla is to be eaten on Fat Tuesday (that is today), but why only once a year? Almost as soon as christmas is over Swedes starts eating whipped cream buns, named Semla. Five Semlor (thats the name) per person is the average number of Semla-buns that a swede eat every year. If you are in Stockholm today you must try it.
Here are my recommendations, one from every district of the city:

Xoko, Rörstrandsgatan 15, Vasastan
Gunnarsons Specialkonditori, Götgatan 92, Södermalm

Just love Gubbhyllan at Skansen
One of my favorite restaurants is at the open-air museum Skansen. Its named Gubbhyllan (Gubbe means old man and hyllan means shelf) and is one of the restaurants at Skansen. They serve small scale produced traditional swedish food with a twist. The food is always great and the atmosphere "homey". And when I visited the restaurant yesterday the owner "KC" had just come from the northern part of Sweden where he had bought pheasants for the restaurant.
Gotland in Stockholm
Lime stone formations, a medieval city (Visby), beaches, good climate, and unusual birds and wild life makes the Island of Gotland a popular place to go for a vacation. If you visit Stockholm you can get a piece of Gotland at a new restaurant: Restaurang Gotland. The restaurateurs focuses on locally produced food from the Gotland county. The island is renowned for their truffles and small farms.
Other restaurants in Stockholm named after a city or a county:
Restaurang Göteborg - situated in Hammarby Sjöstad is named after the second largest city
Restaurant Hälsingborg - situated in the city district is named after a city in Scania (Skåne)
Autumn restaurant favorites
Whether you are looking for contemporary international cuisine, traditional Swedish food, ethnic from around the globe or affordable neighborhood restaurants - Stockholm has it. The autumn is the cosy season, and restaurants light their candles and some offers real warming fireplaces and a snugly atmosphere. Here are some of our new and old restaurant favorites:
□ Orangeriet (orangery)- crackling fireplace, cozy sofas, magical view of Stockholm and the best cocktails in town. To good to be true? This new bar, next to the popular restaurant Kungsholmen has become an autumn favorite.
□ Hjerta-(heart)on the lush island of Skeppsholmen, lies this newly opened charming and rustic restaurant. Perfect for a lunch after a visit to the neighbours Nationalmuseum, Museum of Modern Art and East Asian Museum, or in the evening.
□ Ulla Winbladh - A charming place on Djurgården, next to Skansen and the Vasa Museum, Stockholm is one of the real classics, serving Swedish home cooking. Next summer Michelin restaurateur Melker Andersson will open a restaurant at Godthem next to Ulla Winbladh on Djurgården.
□ Bistro Ruby/Grill Ruby - French bistro or Texas grill? The two sister restaurants in Stockholms old town offer the best of two worlds in an intimate setting.
□ Djuret (the animal) or Pubologi - Djuret serves one animal at the time, from head to tail. The menu consists of different meat paragraphs from the same animal. Pubologi is a hybride of a diningroom, bar and pub and is next door. Both of them quite new

Total experience in old-new Lux Stockholm
Lux Stockholm is one of the star restaurants situated by the lake in a former industrial building. The restaurant is constantly evolving. The creative chef Henrik Norströms food philosophy is to maximize the food experience and to honour the origin and the food revolves around four distinct tastes - salt, sour, smoked and spiced - and the four seasons.
October 4 is the starting point of a new food concept: A show kitchen close to each table moving the kitchen into the dining area and shortening the time between cooking and serving. Personally I really like the concept which feels new and unusual in its form. I had the opportunity to try the new concept
Here you see the chefs preparing the dinner. Though they are just next to you its calm and without noice.
Wagamama and Potstickers to Stockholm
Two asian fast food chains are opening in the city district in Stockholm; Wagamama and the dumplingsbar Potstickers.
Wagamama - the popular brittish version of the asian kitchen is moving into the new Water Front Building in Stockholm - home of a congress center and hotel. According to Restauratören the restaurant will open in October and have 130 seats. It will be a part of Stureplansgruppen Group.
Potstickers is opening two dumpling restaurants this autumn, on Regeringsgatan and Tegnerlunden later on this autumn

"Henrik’s food artistry revolves around four distinct tastes - salt, sour, smoked and spiced - and the four seasons. The food is mainly developed of locally produced raw products in a close co-operation with hand picked local farmers, fisher and horticulturists from Sörmland, Uppland and Gotland. We let the season select currant raw products for the à la Carte. You can, as a guest, sense the variation in season depending on which time of year you visit Lux" according to their webb
