Scandic Hotels are the new owners of Wallin Hotel

Best Western Wallin Hotel centrally located close to Stockholm City Conference have got new owners, Scandic Hotel. Wallin Hotel has 181 rooms. The Scandic Chain now owns 16 hotels in Stockholm.

Scandic builds new hotel in Kista

Kista Science City in Stockholm is the location for the Scandic hotel chains new hotel. 400 rooms divided on 30 floors will open during autumn 2009. The construction of the building will start during spring 2009.

Kista Science city, one of the leading ICT clusters in the world, is expanding. Within a year a new exhibition hall and international fair, Kistamässan, will open. And already in 2009 a 41 story hotel building, with 400 rooms will open in the same area. The new hotel will be runned by Scandic-Hotel chain.  
 

Hotel Stureplan opens in January

The first 58 rooms of Hotel Stureplan will open in January and in early summer 2008 the hotel will have 102 rooms.  I have written about it before.


Elite builds luxury hotel in an old mill

The old mill, Saltsjöqvarn, situated by the water front in Nacka is turning into an Elite Hotel according to Dagens Industri. The hotel will open in 2010. Elite Hotel Group will then have three hotels in Stockholm. The others are:  Elite Palace Hotel in Vasastan and Elite Hotel Stockholm Plaza on Östermalm.

Room for a lady?

Hotel Lady Hamilton in Gamla Stan offers rooms with something extra just for women called Lady room. Makeup mirror, water kettle, slippers, magazine, fruit, mineral water etcetera are included in the price. Lady Hamilton is situated on Storkyrkobrinken 5 at Gamla Stan

Another low fare hotel group in Stockholm

Economy and budget hotels with city locations are not easy to find anywhere. According to DN the hotel group Accor would like to change that with its new hotel concept All Season. During the next five years 20 new budget hotels will open in Sweden. The hotels will have private shower, toilet, TV and internet but not all the extras. Accor owns Ibis, Formule 1 and Novotel in Sweden.  Low budget hotels seems to be a trend at the moment. The first, Hotel Micro, opens already in November followed by the new Moment Hotels chain.

27 new business rooms at Wallin Hotel were built on the roof terrace of Folkets Hus. These rooms are called the Markelius rooms. Drawing on inspiration from 1950s textiles designed by Sven Markelius, the newest rooms boast classic styled interiors with a modern twist. Guests are transported from the new rooms by a glass lift down to the main reception area and the restaurant. The lift even goes directly to the congress level at the City Conference Center  (Folkets Hus) making access easier for the hotel's conference guests. Guests staying at the hotel can also enjoy a 20 pct discount at Centralbadet Spa.

Quality Hotel at Globen build 3 suites and a banquethall

The Globe Arenas closest hotel, Quality Hotel Globe, build to house the stars performing in the arena. With their three new suites - the largest beeing 125 square meters - will be the second largest suite in Stockholm. The largest is the 330 square meter Princess Lilian Suite at Grand Hotel. The Quality Globe suites will open in November-December this year. Quality Hotel Globe will also open their new banquethall, which will seat 300 people, in november.

A great alternative accommodation is the apartmenthotels (one room apartments with kitchenette) especially if you stay longer in the City. Accome Hotel Apartments has three hotels in Stockholm - all situated outside the city centre in Bromma, Kista and Solna. There fourth Stockholm apartment hotel will open at Gärdet on Östermalm. Will return when I know more. The longer you stay, the better the price is their concept. The Accome chain will also soon change name to "Stay at".

New low fare hotel chain in Stockholm

The Hotel Micro is maybe the first low-fare hotel to open in Stockholm, but Moment Hotels is a new franschise hotel chain based on three cornerstones: function, economy and design.
- We have tried to develop an "IKEA-concept" for the hotel market, and we have excluded everything that does not add any value for the customer says Öjvind Norberg, to Restauratören recently. The hotels will be compact in size but with good comfort  and a strong image.

First low fare hotel opens in the city

Stockholm will get its first city-centre low fare hotel. Hotel Micro,  Tegnérlunden 8 in Stockholm, will open in November 2007 with 33 rooms. The rooms are 5-6 square meters and does not include private toilet, shower or TV. Rooms will cost 495-695 SEK which does not include breakfast. The hotel will be situated in the basement of  Hotel Tegnérlunden and are without windows.  


Preview of new Clarion Sign

Got a preview of the new Clarion Sign hotel today. The hotel, Stockholms largest with 558 rooms,  will open in february 2008 at Norra Bantorget close to the Central station and filled with furniture of nordic classic designers Arne Jacobsen, Alvar Aalto and Bruno Mattsson and a restaurant runned by New York swede Marcus Samuelson of Aquavit-restaurant. The Norra Bantorget has all the potential for being the next trendy area in Stockholm, and this is why: Bonniers Konsthall and the shops, cafées and plants that are being built in the area will connect the New Norra Bantorget area with Vasastan. Skanska Nya hem is building 75 apartments and Familjebostader is building 58 around the new Lilla Bantorget square. Rolfs Kök, Grill and the other restaurants plus cafées on this side of Drottninggatan has already brought light into this area.

The beautiful yellow summer country manor built by the theatre director Gustaf Collijn in 1906 is almost like a dream. Beautifully situated on Svartsö island, close to Ljusterö, and north of Lådna in the Stockholm middle Archipelago. Svartsö Country manor bording house has room for 36 over night guests in really nice rooms of good standard - open until October 29 this season and opens again in april. A double room kosts 500 SEK per person plus additional dinner starting from 200 SEK.

Lydmar reopens next to Nationalmuseum

Per Lydmar, the man behind Berns Hotel and the now closed music hotel Lydmar, will open a new hotel focused on art, music and photo. The new hotel will be situated next to Nationalmuseum on Blasieholmen, in the former building of the German embassy, and is planned to open after summer 2008. The hotel will have some 50 rooms ccording to Dagens Nyheter. The new hotel will be named Hotel Lydmar. 


Hotell being built on Skeppsholmen

Skeppsholmen will get its first hotel in 2009, which will give visitors another Skeppsholmen alternative besides the Af Chapman youth hostel. Its the Nobis group, also owner of Operakällaren and Hotel J, that will run the hotel- and conference business on Skeppsholmen. The new hotel will be at Långa Raden, former military logding and will include 50-70 rooms and a restaurant. The Nobis Group will also rent Skridskopaviljongen on Kastellholmen for conferences. The hotel will open in 2009-2010.

Country estate becomes restaurant and hotel

The country estate Sundby Gård, by the lake Orningen in Huddinge just 18 km from Stockholm, has turned into a restaurant and a café runned by chefs Bert Ek and Thomas Bjurholm. They also operate Restaurang Hågelbyhus in Tumba. InJuly-August next year Sundby Gård will also include a hotel. Huddinge is a suburb south of Stockholm.


Grand Hôtel joins InterContinental

Grand Hotel in Stockholm will join the worlds largest hotel chain InterContinental Hotels & Resorts which will make it even easier to book the hotel from all over the world. 80 percent of Grand Hotels guests are from outside Sweden. Grand hotel will be the only five star hotel in all of Scandinavia. The Swedish family Wallenberg will continue to own the hotel through the Investor Company and will still be members of The Leading Hotels of the World.

New 4-star lifestyle hotel for families

The Best Western Time Hotel will open in October 2007 situated in the calm, residential downtown area called Vasastan, close to Arlanda Airport bus stop and Vanadisbadet (out door poolarea). The hotel offers 144 comfortable rooms and most rooms have a French balcony. They have also got 15 studios with smaller kitchen for långterm-guests or families. 

The Best Western Time Hotel has a modern, classic design and the spacious lobby with its stylish lounge-bar is the natural meeting point for all guests.

Sheraton Stockholm are launching a familypackage,  FAMtastic, All children who checks in will recieve their own guestbook to write or draw in, their own bedroom next to their parents and a bag with gifts at half price. The package also includes free food if the family eats together. Sheraton also offers babysitters and special activities for children.
